Gaillardia

It's been 2 1/2 years since my last trip to Nebraska (way too long!). While there, the Dettens took me to the pretty little Holy Family Shrine in Gretna. This unique chapel sits in perfect harmony with the surrounding prairie.

The path between the chapel and the visitor's center is planted with pretty flowers, and at the time we were there, gaillardia was in bloom. I took some seed from one of the spent flower heads, planted it, and ended up with one seedling that survived, got repotted, moved with us, and has plenty of leaves but no flowers...until now!

Just this past week I did a double take to see this pretty flower waving in the breeze:

A little bit of Gretna followed me home!
