Watercolor for Cardmakers -- PreClass Exercise

I'd been debating whether or not to sign up for the Watercolor class at OnlineCardClasses.com. On the one hand, I love their classes! Always fun with great instructors, easy to follow instructions, and I've learned so much with very pleasing results. On the other hand, my watercolor efforts in the past have been pretty poor and I'm trying NOT to spend my whole allowance just once. As I was dithering, my friend Barb signed up and so, Monkey See, Monkey Do, I just had to sign up too. She's such an enabler!

This class has a feature previous classes haven't -- some pre-class videos and a pre-class assignment to help familiarize ourselves with our materials. I already had some metallic watercolors which I have barely used, and just today got the set I ordered from Amazon. I made two charts as suggested in Jennifer's video:

I learned a few things just by making these charts. The colors are lots lighter on paper than in the box. The brush strokes show and the paint pools in places. And my hands aren't as steady as I thought. I also see that I could use a wider brush.

Next step is to number the colors, and try blending a few of them. Blend? No wonder I never liked my results...I never thought about blending them! I think I'm gonna like this class!
